I pre-ordered the book as a gift for my husband but couldn't resist taking a slow flip though it when it arrived today. As an author who has written "how-to" books, I look for two things in particular in this type of book...1. Does the author know the subject very well.2. Can they write well.The answer to both is clearly "yes" with this book. I follow Andrew and Hannah on Instagram, so I was not surprised to see that he knows his way around photographing cats. His writing skills, however, were less clear from what I had seen on IG, which is a more visual and episodic medium. I read the Introduction, much of Chapter 1, and snippets from the remaining chapters during my slow flip-though of the book. His writing style is relaxed, informed, and touched with humor. All the qualities of a good teacher.Our four Maine Coon cats have been photographed professionally several times for the annual Maine Coon Cat calendar put out by a well-known Maine publication. The photographers were excellent and fun for us (humans) to work with. I suspect it would have been more fun for our cats if the photographers had had the opportunity to read Andrew's Chapter 1 first!About the photos in the book. There are LOTS of them and they are as excellent as you'd expect in a book of this title. Also, the printing is well done and the images as clear as the writing. I am looking forward to seeing the results my husband gets with our cats once he reads this book!
